Please Take a Moment before
completing the CBGA Membership Application to Read the Following:
Eligibility & Requirements
The Coastal Bend Guides Association does not discriminate. All current
USCG licensed captains serving within the boundaries of our chapter's
areas (Upper Rockport to Rivera) are eligible and welcome. If you are
interested in becoming a member, you must be sponsored by a current member
of the CBGA and both you and your sponsor must attend a regular CBGA
meeting. Check the CBGA Calendar for the next meeting date. Please submit
to the President a written request, the completed application, a copy
(front and back) of your current USCG license and the annual dues. Both
yours and your sponsor’s signatures are required on the application.
Coast Guard Regulations 46 CFR 16 Sec. 16.210, pre-employment testing
requirements:
a. Prospective member must pass a chemical test for dangerous drugs
before membership is complete, not merely take the test.
b. This may be waived if you have proof that, within the previous six
months, you have passed any Coast Guard-required drug test, or has, during
the previous six months, been subject to Coast Guard required random
testing for at least 60 days and has not failed or refused a test,
required by Sec. 16.230
Review and Approval
The membership request will be reviewed and approved by the Board of
Directors, and then voted on by the attending membership. Should an
existing member need to further validate information or has a concern
regarding a prospective member; he/she has 30 days in which to submit a
written letter to the Board of Directors addressing those concerns.
Assuming that all requirements have been met, the new member will then be
notified of membership acceptance. In the case of membership denial, a
letter of explanation will be provided to the prospective member. The
Coastal Bend Guides Association does reserve the right to deny membership
when applicable and deemed as necessary.
GUIDE MEMBERS BENEFIT FROM RANDOM DRUG
TESTING
Audited by the USCG, the Coastal Bend Guides Association’s membership
is subject to a random drug testing program meeting the criteria of Title
46 CFR 16.230 which is required for maintaining a USCG license. Fifty
percent of the members are randomly selected for testing each year. The
CBGA will notify you by email when your name has been selected. The drug
testing is administered at Concentra Medical Center, 4025 SPID, Corpus
Christi, Texas. Guides are also provided with a letter from the
Association when renewing their USCG license showing proof that they have
been in the required random drug testing program.
